WICHITA, Kansas (KSN) -- As a U.S. Senate committee prepares to vote on Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius' heading up the Department of Health and Human Services, anti-abortion activists are attempting a last minute push to derail her nomination.
"It is normal for a democratic politician to have ties to the abortion industry," said Tony Perkins. "But the ties and the depth of the ties with the darkest side of the abortion industry that Kathleen Sebelius has is very abnormal."
Perkins is president of the Family Research Council - a Christian, politically conservative think tank. He held a press conference outside Tiller's Wichita clinic Sunday.
"Literally blood money has built her political foundation here in the state of Kansas," said Perkins.
Last week, the Associated Press reported Sebelius accepted three times more money from Dr. Tiller than she had previously admitted to senators. The Health and Human Services Department said it was an oversight when she didn't mention money received from Tiller's political action committee.
Perkins said he believed Sebelius was trying to hide her connection to Tiller - one of the biggest enemies of the anti-abortion movement.
"I have not found a politician that has had more direct ties to the abortion industry as Kathleen Sebelius," said Perkins.
The Senate committee is expected to send Sebelius nomination for approval by the full Senate after it meets on Tuesday.
