Many Types Of Headaches

Headaches are common in our fast-paced, pressure-filled world. There are many causes of headaches, including physical trauma, emotional stress, nutritional deficiencies, or chemical toxins. In addition, if your neck and/or back are out of alignment, this can affect nerves, muscles, and even blood flow to your head. Too often, we turn to over-the-counter medications to relieve our discomfort. Unfortunately, these only mask the underlying sources of pain. After your initial chiropractic examination, we can determine if chiropractic health care is the best alternative for treating your chronic headaches. A combination of chiropractic adjustments and nutritional and lifestyle changes can dramatically reduce the frequency and intensity of headaches. It is important to know that if you’ve suffered from chronic headaches for years, improvement can take time. But a visit to our office is a great place to start.

Headaches may be caused by many reasons. There are many types of headaches such as tension, allergy, sinus, cluster headaches, migraines etc.

Tension Type Headaches ~ A non specific headache. It is caused by a tightening of the muscles at the back of the neck and of the face and scalp. A muscle contraction headache is a steady, mild headache, and is described as having a band like distribution around the head. It can occur occasionally. The episode of a tension headache is often associated with the stresses of life and or fatigue.

Cluster Headaches ~ A One sided headache usually occurring around one eye. It can last several hours or a few minutes. It is called a cluster because it occurs in a group or series. You can have tearing in the eye, nasal congestion, facial flushing, and constriction of the pupil on the side that has the headache. This will usually occur more frequently in the spring and fall. Some clusters occur chronically.

Migraines ~ Migraines can be moderate to severe. This type of headache can affect one or both sides of the head. This is caused by the changes in blood vessels in the brain. Nausea and vomiting can accompany these headaches
